Theyyam and Tira are the most important rituals of North Kerala. Theyyam is based mainly from the district Kannur. Theyyas are the opinion of the Dravidians, who are not subject to the occupationby the ancient system. Theyyams are known as Kaliyattam north of Pazhayangadzizhayam, Theyyam from Pazhayangadi to Valapattanam and Vayapattinam to Theriyattam. Theyyam is a dancing of goddess. In the time of Theyyam dance is called theyayattom and theyyam role is called theyyakkulam. Theyam art is full of devotional worship, mixed with magical ritual, tantric ritual, karmic ritual and fasting ritual.
